Blog 8: Don't text and drive LOL

I chose to comment on Mr. Navarette's " Ban texting while driving in Texas?"  article from his Lone Star Politics blog. Mr. Navarette's point of view in my eyes is a correct course of action, texting while driving should be banned.
I drive A LOT on a daily basis in Austin, like a shit ton and I can't begin to tell you how many times I look over and see the person next to me in the other lane texting while blazing down the highway! I am at fault as well. There are times my impulses get the best of me and I text and drive and I know how stupid it is to do it! It is not safe in any way!

We all think "oh I pay attention, I'll be fine", but that is how accidents happen. I agree with Mr. Navarette, Texas needs to ban texting and driving ASAP. If the state passes the law and start fining peopole for the offense, then people will take it more seriously. I understand it's going to be difficult to catch citizens texting while driving, but as long as the threat is out there it will set somewhat of a small tone across the state. Unfortunalty, people, inluding myself, cannot control their impuleses even if they know it is dangerous and that is why I think the state should step in and take responsibilty. If the state declines to pass the bill, then I hope in the future, it is mandatory for all cars, to have some kind of hands free device installed.

Hopefully, Greg Abott (not counting on it, but you never know) , once in office, will help pass this bill in the upcoming legislation. Making Texas the 45th state to ban texting and driving.

GMO Labeling in Texas

I have known little about GMO that is in almost all of our foods we eat until lately, when I started researching more about it. I always thought, just another Whole Foods white bread kind of people trend, but I am embarrassed now how I never looked into it sooner to get information before I started judging others. My oh my, is there so much more to it. So interesting!

GMO, Genetically Modified Organisms is a bacterium, yeast, insect, plant and mammal whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. GMOs are in 90 percent of the cash crops like cotton, corn, soybeans nationwide. Farmers use GMO in their crops to keep the crops stronger and withstand the chemicals they use on the crops while growing to keep pesticides away and kill weeds.
Me personally, I do not feel like their has been enough research on GMO and that is why it should be labeled on Texans foods. If people want to take the risk of not knowing what they are putting in their bodies, go for it, but at least they are  making a decision off knowing all the facts of what they are consuming. They have been using GMO for years because they produce very large quantities of food to feed the world.....and also making biotech companies very rich.....
Maine and Connecticut have already passed bills to have all foods labeled if contain GMO and 26 other states have considered legislation. As of now, nothing has even been brought to Texas legislation and the issue is pretty stagnant here in our homeland. Most farmers will advocate that the products are safe and we don't need to label them. My question is, if you claim it is safe why not just label them?

Below is 64 countries were it is required to label all GMO products......If the USA is suppose to be "one of the most powerful countries" in the world then why are we so behind the game on something that effects millions of peoples life?....once again.

    We procreate=stay busy and blind

I love that popular photo above not for shock value, but because it is just the honest to Cher truth... I chose my fellow classmate's "Pulling Out" entry from her Yappn' 'Bout Texas  blog. Not only did this entry touch on Women's rights (yay uterus, breast and ovaries...don't let the haters get ya down!), but she brings to light the problem that occurs when women's rights are taken away...more and more children end up in foster care that the state can't regulate properly. In 2012 they estimated around 16,000+ children were in the Texas state foster care and rising each year. Apparantly Child Protected Services has had issues keeping people employed past a year once given position and that is causing a lot of miscare and overlooked evaluation for the kids in the foster care system. When the cases get shifted around from person to person, information gets lost in transistion and only causes the children harm.
I believe linking the proposed abortion laws and the shitty foster care system, like Mrs.Karis did in her blog is right on point. I guarantee the children going into foster care will continue to go up when you see more clinics shut down. When a women feels like she has no options, but to have the child, knowing that she can't afford it, she will most likely give her child up in hopes for a better life......you would think the political hoochie's against abortions would try to capitalize on it and use this to their advantage and make money off abortions?!
Just like everything in the medical field, its all about the money!
Just a thought I have time to time, but if you keep people procreating, then you are keepng them busy and blind. Too busy to care and blind to seeing whats really going on in their governement and how it truly effects their day to day life temendously. Keep the masses dumb=equals happy industries and power elites.

As the rain looms overhead on the eve of the Texas gubernatorial, I can't stop and think about how many puppies the campaign proceeds could have saved across the Texas plains had they been put to better use. My point being, all this time, all these funds, nothing changes and the issues just remain the same.

    Toilet Water 2.0!

After four years of severe drought the Wichita Falls, Texas city officials have began to blend 5 million gallons of treated wastewater into their municipal water system, starting in July. To fully launch  the "Direct Potable Reuse Project," the city pipes water 12 miles from its wastewater treatment plant to the treatment facility where it goes through microfiltration. A pump pulls water through a module filled with fibers that remove most (...most..) of the impurites and at the end gets belended with lake water that supplies the drinking water to the city.  Wichita Falls has become somewhat of a punchline for its desperate water ideas, but I believe the rest of Texas is watching closely to see how the plan ultimately goes. Obvisouly, the lack of water is a huge issue right now that no one wants to talk about, so really Wichita Falls is taking great strides I think to help with the problem and setting an example for the rest of this huge ass desert of a state.
However, the best part of all of the rest of Texas turning their nose up to the Toilet Water 2.0 plan is a lot of Texans have already been drinking waste water and don't even know it! Accoding to the Texas Tribune article I recently read, the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro's waste water is deposited into the Trinity River, where if flows down into lakes that supplies to Houston residents. I always knew I didn't like Houston for a good reason! Also, apparently, their was a court battle on the rights of San Antonio's wastewate, which not only flows through the highly tourist spot, the Riverwalk (too good to be true), but also blends into The guadalupe-Blanco River that supplies to south Texas cities!
Austin among other Texas cities have been researching for many years now to reuse sewage water, so think twice before you throw shade on the people of Whiticha Falls. Your town could be next suckers!
